We are glad that you are considering the Newfields Community Church as the community in which you will make your promises to one another and to God.
The Newfields Community Church is an interdenominational church affiliated with the United Church of Christ, the United Methodist Church and the Unitarian Universalist Association. It is our privilege to support your marriage, which we believe is a response to the grace of God and a promise to live in covenant with another person. These guidelines are written to help us support that covenant.
Before the wedding
To allow time for planning, we request that you contact the church pastor at least six months before your wedding date. We hope that you will have the opportunity to get to know the congregation whose life is here and who offers this space, and so we invite you to worship with us once or twice before your wedding.
We ask that you meet with the pastor (or another person chosen in consultation with the pastor) several times before the wedding. The purposes of these meetings are:
- to build a relationship so that all may share more fully in this important event;
- to help you consider some of the changes that marriage will bring to your lives; and
- to plan a service which will worship God and reflect your faith in the One who calls you together.
If you wish to have someone other than the church pastor perform your service, this person must be an ordained minister licensed to perform marriages within the State of New Hampshire. Weddings in the church are services of Christian worship; if you prefer that your service be a civil ceremony, we suggest that you contact the Newfields Town Hall.
About the Wedding Service
Your wedding is an opportunity for others to support you in your promises and to be reminded of God’s presence in their lives. Because a wedding is a service of worship, we hope you will choose readings and music which will express your faith in God.
Music
Please make arrangements for music with the pastor and the church organist (Don Willoughby, 772-4838). The church has a pipe organ and a concert grand piano.
Photography
Because a wedding is a worship service, we ask that photographs not be taken between the processional and recessional, and we will make that request to your guests. Video recording may be done from the balcony. Feel free to take as many photos as you like before and after the service.
About the church building
Seating capacity of the sanctuary is 136.
The sanctuary aisle is 45 feet long.
The candles which are normally on the altar may be used, but due to insurance concerns, candles in other locations are not permitted.
If you wish to bring ribbons or flowers to attach to the pews, please do so in a way that does not mar the finish. We ask that no decorations be placed on the walls.
The church is an alcohol and smoke free facility.
Please assign someone in your wedding party to gather up flowers, ribbons, etc. following the wedding.
